The Cost of Corrosion:

$276 Billion… in 2002.  The study, generated by Gerry Koche of DNV-GL, studied 57 industries in the United States and determined the percentage of corrosion costs that each incurred per year.  In 2015, that cost is somewhere in the neighborhood of $540 Billion.  A revised report is currently in the works to bring the report up to current dollar amounts.  In the meantime, you can access the 2002 Cost of Corrosion Powerpoint (PDF):
